Hey guys! You haven't seen me around as I just joined the forums but I might purachase guild wars today! I will probably get the Platium Edition thing, as it comes with Guild Wars and Guild Wars Eye of the North. Would that be a good choice for a new player? I am very experienced at mmorpgs so that part wouldn't be a problem..so I heared it's like chapters, does that mean I should just buy "Guild Wars" Then "Guild Wars: Factions" Then "Guild Wars: Nightfall" Then "Guild Wars: Eye of the North"? I was kinda ticked when I heared I couldn't be a ritualist without the 2nd game. You think platium edition would be nice for a new player?
I kind of want to be a warrior. Does it have multi/classes like some other mmorpgs? Could I freely PvP with my choice of Platium Edition if I chose so? Newbie-friendly game? Any tips on making money at the start? (I hate having no gold) Any friends who want to play =) Necromancer or Warrior?! Can't choose. :P Sorry if Multi-posting in a row isn't allowed, I'm not aware. Well, i'm going to head off to school now. I'll come back when I get home then get guild wars if I decide so. ='P |

Buy all 3 or you will not have the skills and hero's that you need to make it enjoable
yes there are several classes and each can have a secondary profession as well you could not PvP with only the platnium edition (you could but you would suck due to lack of skills) yes it is newby friendly but... (see next answer) there is no good way to make money it has all been nerfed, if this is a big deal to you i suggest buying some other game as you will be poor for a long time if you start this game now you will have to bring your own friends or make them when you get here, but with hero's lots of people are always solo. I suggest joining a guild and you can do that from this site, always guilds recruiting 1st choice for me was warrior, necro was second, then ranger...if I had it to do over I would play monk first as you learn more (of course it is harder too) GL HF |

The platinum edition is a good place to start. Prophecies is the most newbie friendly of all 3 campaigns. Eye of the North is only an expansion meant for max level characters and it continues the prophecies storyline. After completing prophecies, you'll probably want to play more max level content.
With prophecies and eye of the north, you'll have access to the 6 core professions. When you create a character you choose your primary profession. At some point in the game, you'll choose your secondary profession. Note that you can't change your primary profession. On the other hand, you can change your secondary profession after completing certain missions/quests. For the PvP part, it completely apart from the PvE side of the game. PvP is accessible only to lvl 20 characters except for a few starter arenas. Note that you cna create PvP only characters or use you PvE characters to PvP. You can't use your PvP character to PvE though. Yes, GW is newbie firendly, don't let the few people who forgot that they were newbies too in the past prevent you from enjoying the game. Most people in game are helpful to newbies in the starting areas. Also if you ever find yourself stuck either press F10 or type /help in the chat box. You cna also check www.guildwiki.org. As for making money, just by playing the game you should have enough money to properly equip yourself. It's fairly easy to get max armor and max damage weapons. The only thing that will cost you a lot is rare skin weapons and prestige armor. Warrior is probably your est bet if you are starting GW. Although if you feel like playing a necro, there's no problem either, i started GW with a necro myself. |

If you can get out of bed early next Friday I think Circuit City has Prophecies for 9.99 as one of the early specials. If you live in the US and have one nearby.

If you don't want to buy all of them at the same time there is absolutely nothing wrong with just playing prophecies all the way through and seeing how you like it from there. Prophecies is incredibly cheap at the moment, and if you like it, you can then perhaps buy GW:EN and use the online store's 50% off deal for NF, which is the most expensive of the three campaigns. At this point, buying the platinum edition isn't really worth it. It brings the price of Prophecies back to it's original purchase price, and really, after only playing through Prophecies I don't think that you'll find GW:EN that enjoyable (the issue being missing skills, limited classes and such as mentioned by a previous poster.)

Later on, you can add Factions and/or Nightfall to your playing account which will give you the other professions and regions. Quote:

Early in the game, you can choose a secondary profession. This gives your character access to all of the skills and almost all of the attributes of that profession on top of everything that your primary profession can do. You can use your secondary profession to cover for your primary's weaknesses or enhance your primary's strengths. You can also change your secondary profession when you get far enough into the game, so you can keep on adapting to new challenges by experimenting with new profession combinations as well as different skill combinations. Also, once you raise a roleplaying (PvE) character to level 20 you can use those characters in PvP as well as PvE. Although bear in mind that you will want to make sure you buy max equipment for these characters before you take them to the PvP arenas. Quote:

Check out the guild wars website there is a link to a 10 hour/14 day trial of all the games, try before you buy, big download if you connection is slow though.
I would tend to go for nightfall and gwen if thats an option, I see no reason to buy all the games till you decide if you like it or not. My reasoning is that while prophesies is still the best game of them all NF is a close second. The storyline in prophesies is still imo the best but as a game it has been a little left behind by advances in design. Also the newer games tend to be more populated so you are likely to meet more players. Prophesies gets you the 6 core character classes and a great storyline. Character progression has been made easier in later games so the rout to a full character is a lot of gameplaying away in prophesies. But its a very interesting and worthwhile trip. Factions gives you the 6 core classes plus assassin and Ritualist. Nightfall gives you the same 6 core classes plus Dervish and Paragon. Its already been pointed out that many important skills come from prophesies and not having them might stop you running some of the older but popular character builds. But there are newer builds and equivalent skills for many of them so I wouldnt worry too much, if its a problem you can always buy the game later and go get them. Anyway try the demo and then buy in a day or so. Note Its a demo limited only by duration you are playing the full game, its just you are unlikely to see much of the world in 10 hours play. But there is time to try out the various classes and have a quick look at the three main gameworlds so its worth it. |

i say you learn more on prophecies factions and nightfall are good though. They all have a different approach to teaching you the basics. I like prophecies especially becase you will find it alot longer. The skill range is good aswell. Stick to platinum as its this game + the expansion. The expansion has some pretty good features which goes well with the first game.
I believe trial keys are being given away on guildwars.com. You could try out which ones you like. I still go for platinum though but when u get into the game buy the rest. Dont buy them al lat once because you could be wasting your money and theres plenty of content to buy them one by one. You made a good decision joining this forum. despite the angry people we get, you can learn alot. wiki.guildwars.com is also very helpful one thing is pretty cool about this time is wintersday (guild wars xmas). Get the game now and in prophecies you can do winter quests next month. you should be up to the area by then. You get unique items and masks and stuff. You also get this event in Nightfall Last edited by BenjZee; Nov 15, 2007 at 02:59 PM // 14:59.. |
